If Obamacare is Upheld….

While the country anxiously awaits the US Supreme Court’s opinion on the constitutionality of Obamacare The Truth About Guns blog takes an unique look at the individual mandate and what it could imply if upheld.  For some reason I don’t see the liberals getting behind this individual mandate.

Below is via The Truth About Guns.

Opponents argue that if you can tell people they have to buy insurance, there’s no limit to the requirements with which government can saddle them. James Johnson, in a letter to the editor of syracuse.com, takes the idea of an individual mandate to the next logical level suggesting that Americans also be required to purchase a gun. Full text of the letter after the jump…

To the Editor:

There is nothing in the Constitution that guarantees a citizen the right to health care. Yet the Obama administration passed a law that contains an individual mandate for citizens to purchase health care. The justification is an extremely warped interpretation of the commerce clause.

In contrast, the Second Amendment guarantees the right of citizens to keep and bear arms.

In the wake of the Supreme Court’s Heller decision affirming Second Amendment rights, violent crimes plummeted in Chicago. Murder fell by 14 percent, robberies using guns fell by 25 percent and assaults using guns fell by 37 percent.

Also, an armed citizenry is the first line of defense. Based on this, the Republicans in the House should introduce legislation that all citizens who can pass a background check be mandated to purchase a firearm. There is far more justification for this mandate based on the Second Amendment than for the Obamacare mandate, no matter how you try to stretch the commerce clause.

This may not get through the Democratic Senate or past President Obama. If nothing else though, it may give the liberals on the Supreme Court something to think about. After all, there may come a day when the Republicans control both houses of Congress and the presidency. If the government can make us buy health care insurance against our will, there is nothing to stop them from mandating purchase of a firearm.

Rahm Emanuel Funds Challenge to Illinois Concealed Carry Ban

It broke yesterday that Rahm Emanuel and the City of Chicago wrote a $399,950 check to the 2nd Amendment Foundation for the City of Chicago violating our right to keep and bear arms.  The $399,950 check was reimbursement for legal fess incurred by the 2nd Amendment Foundation while fighting and winning the McDonald v. Chicago case before the United States Supreme Court.

It turns out that now the 2nd Amendment Foundation will lead the appeal of a U.S. District Court decision that upheld the State of Illinois’s ban on legally carrying a concealed weapon.  Thanks to Rahm Emanuel and the City of Chicago now the 2nd Amendment Foundation has even more funds to help fight this key case defending our right to keep and bear arms.

Illinois is the only state in the union that outright bans a law abiding citizen from carrying a concealed weapon.  Below is a map that lays out the varied laws of the states regarding concealed carry.  Before carrying in another state do your own research on the laws of the land.

Thank God I live in Texas where our elected officials respect and embrace the 2nd amendment!

Rahm Emanuel Writes Check to 2nd Amendment Foundation

Rahm Emanuel and the City of Chicago wrote a $399,950 check to the 2nd Amendment Foundation for the City of Chicago violating our right to keep and bear arms.  Hat tip to Ted Cruz for pointing this out on his facebook page, the post has over 3,000 likes.

The $399,950 check was reimbursement for legal fess incurred by the 2nd Amendment Foundation while fighting the McDonald v. Chicago case before the United States Supreme Court.  The 2nd Amendment Foundation won the case and Supreme Court overturned the City of Chicago’s ban on handguns.

Thanks to Rahm’s attempted gun grabbing overstep, the City of Chicago is now funding the next round of litigation defending our right to keep and bear arms.  Thanks Rahm!

Crockett Keller Defends CHL Radio Ad

Deep in the heart of the Texas Hill Country in Mason, Texas concealed handgun license instructor Crockett Keller’s radio ad promoting his CHL course has gone viral and received national attention.  Drudge Report recently picked up the story and Glenn Beck interviewed Crockett Keller.

Crockett Keller defended his CHL radio ad to Glenn Beck,

“That was somewhat of a tongue-in-cheek jab at some of my liberal neighbors,“ he explained regarding his stance against ”socialist liberals” and those who voted for Obama. “You understand, I put this ad on a small, local country music station that has less about a less than a 50 mile radius. You know, I was pretty much speaking to my neighbors. That’s somewhat expanded, I think.”

“I have approximately 10 hours to try to instill some form of knowledge into a person where they can make a life and death decision in split second. When you carry a weapon to defend yourself … you have a scant few seconds to decide whether not this warrants using deadly force or otherwise. … Now, they [liberal voters] had over a year and a half to vet who they voted for president. Now how can I take 10 hours and try to teach them a life and death decision in just a few seconds in just a few seconds when they screwed it up after a year and a half?”

You can listen to the whole radio interview with Glenn Beck and Crockett Keller here.  Listen to Crockett Keller’s radio ad here.

Crockett Keller is now being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety.  To become a CHL instructor in Texas, you must be licensed by the DPS and be up to their standards to teach the class.  Previously the DPS stated that,

“The Department became aware of the statements in question yesterday and has begun an investigation into the matter. The Department will take appropriate administrative action based on the findings from the investigation.”

Stay tuned for more information on the DPS’s investigation of Crockett Keller.

Pork Choppers Invade Texas

Texas State Representatives Sid Miller and Wayne Christian are pushing to pass a state law that allows hunters to hunt feral hogs and coyotes from helicopters on private land in all of Texas’ 254 counties.  The two champions of this bill filed a similar bill last session that did not pass.  Reps. Miller and Christian represent rural areas of Central Texas and East Texas respectively.

The bill, HB 716, passed the Texas House of Representatives yesterday 137-9 garnering an overwhelming support from Democrats and Republicans alike, and more importantly from rural and urban representatives.  The next step is for a Senator to pick the bill up in the Senate and pass it in that chamber.

Hunting and gun enthusiast Texas Governor Rick Perry is said have taken an interest in this bill, and I expect that he is chomping at the bit to get a chance to take feral hogs and coyotes from a helicopter.  As we know Governor Perry has had no problem in the past taking wily coyotes out with his daily legal concealed carry weapon, a Ruger .380.

If Only I Had Taken This Hog From a Helicopter!

Not only will this bill allow local entrepreneurs to create jobs and provide a much needed service to landowners, it will also save $7.50 per every dollar spent on feral hog control.  Once this bill is passed landowners can lease out their land like a traditional deer lease to sport hunters wanting to hunt hogs and coyotes from helicopters.  Helicopter hunting companies could lease the land directly from the landowner and then sell seats on their helicopter on “guided” aerial feral hog and coyote hunts.  Currently it is illegal to buy or lease a seat on a helicopter to hunt feral hogs and coyotes.

Why does Texas need this bill?  Keep reading below the jump to find out. Continue reading

Support the 1847 Walker Colt Revolver as the Official State Gun of Texas

Texas needs an official state gun, Arizona and Utah have one, why don’t we?  What a better why to express the rugged individualism and self reliance that has defined the great people of Texas since the days of the Republic than by honoring the Walker Colt Revolver as the official state gun of Texas.  Without the Walker Colt Revolver in the hands of the Texas Rangers the Republic of Texas might not of survived the trials and tribulations that it did on its path to statehood.

Texans for Walker Colt” has officially launched calling on the Texas Legislature to recognize the 1847 Walker Colt Revolver .44 as the official state gun of Texas.

Support the 1847 Walker Colt Revolver on Facebook

Please join the facebook group “Texans for Walker Colt” and invite your friends if you support this noble cause!  You can follow the 1847 Walker Colt Revovler on twitter as well @1847WalkerColt.

This is a grassroots movement to establish not only an official gun for the Great State of Texas but to also designate the legendary Walker Colt .44 Caliber Revolver as the Official Gun of Texas.

The Texas Rangers since their founding in 1823 have defended Texas with honor, valor and dedication and exemplified the Texas ideal of rugged individualism. The Texas Rangers could not of done it without the assistance of their trusty sidearm, the 1847 Walker Colt .44 Revolver.

Texas Ranger Samuel Walker used Colt’s earlier pistols, but was unhappy with their performance on the frontiers of Texas and knew Colt could do better. Ranger Walker made some practical recommendations to Samuel Colt that led to the development of the 1847 Walker Colt .44 Revolver which is known as the first truly effective military revolver and a major breakthrough for repeating arms. Walker claimed that the new revolvers were “as effective as a common rifle at 100 yards and superior to a musket even at 200.” Ranger Walker quickly ordered 1,000 upgraded Colt Revolvers and introduced them into the ranks of the Texas Rangers defending the new Republic of Texas and the rest is history… until now.

We want to continue to honor Texas Ranger Walker and his legendary revolver by establishing it as the Official Gun of Texas. If you support this effort please “Like” the facebook page, suggest it to friends, make a comment on our wall, give it a shout out on twitter @1847WalkerColt and contact your legislator.

Texas Does Not Have An Official State Gun

Following my previous post about Texas not having an official state firearm a reader commented “You are an idiot.  Texas already has an official fire arm, it’s the 1847 Walker Colt .44 Revolver which was commissioned for the first unit of the Texas Rangers.  Get to know your Texas before you mouthoff.”

Well friendly reader I convened my very own session of the Austin American-Statesman’s Politifact and did a little more research.  I find your statement to be pants on fire lying and I will stand my ground claiming that Texas does not have an official state firearm or weapon of any kind.

You can find a list of Texas State symbols kept by the state here and additional state symbols and honors can be found here in the Government Code, Title 11, Subtitle A, Chapter 3101.  Nowhere does it mention a state firearm or any other weapon.

However the reader does in a round about way make a good point and highlights the Texas history of the 1847 Walker Colt .44 Revolver and why it is a great candidate to become the official state gun of Texas.

Walker claimed that the new revolvers were “as effective as a common rifle at 100 yards and superior to a musket even at 200.”  Ranger Walker quickly ordered 1,000 upgraded Colt Revolvers and introduced them into the ranks of the Texas Rangers defending the new Republic of Texas and the rest is history.

With that I nominate the 1847 Walker Colt .44 Revolver as the Official State gun of Texas.
