Before Brian Birdwell became a Texas State Senator he was an Army lieutenant colonel serving his country stationed at the Pentagon. Birdwell survived the attacks on 9/11 and after 3rd degree burns over most of his body, a “brutal” stay in an intensive burn unit and over 30 surgeries later he eventually recovered.
More than a decade after that terrible day Senator Birdwell lead the Texas Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States to commemorate the death of Osama Bin Laden and to honor the heroes who brought Osama down and the ones we lost on 9/11.
Birdwell received a standing ovation from his colleagues and made the following statement.
“We have done justice to a murderer who deserved the death he got.”
“We were celebrating that justice was being done rather than our enemies celebrating the slaughter of innocent life.”
“The question is what are we doing as a nation to make sure our enemies learn never to make us mad?” he said. “Last night’s operation answered that question.”
