For most people September 1st means that Labor Day is getting close. For politicos across the state however, it is the day that the majority of state laws take effect and are implemented and enforced statewide.
These laws that go into the effect range from serious ones with statewide effect, to local issues that only deal with one county and everything in between.
For a list of all 700 laws that take effect today visit the states legislative reference library website here.
My top two favorite laws that take effect today will do away with the lower night time speed limit and will allow the hunting of feral hogs from helicopters.
What is your favorite, or least favorite law that takes effect today?
Updated: The banning texting while driving bill (HB 242) was passed by the Texas House and Senate, and then vetoed by Governor Perry. It would of taken effect today if not for the veto.
