Last night the Garland Tea Party hosted a Texas Senate Candidates Forum and Straw Poll with over 300 people attending the event. While Vice President Joe Biden’s event only had 40 people the same day in Dallas.
Granted, the VP’s event was a closed to the public high dollar fundraiser, and the Garland Tea Party event was free and open to the public…but lets not let details bog us down. The people of Dallas spoke with their feet last night, and the Tea Party overwhelming defeated VP Biden.
Ted Cruz and Governor Rick Perry carried the night in their respective US Senate and Presidential Straw Polls at the Garland Tea Party forum. Ted Cruz received 64.5% of the vote and Rick Perry received 45.5%.
The Ted Cruz campaign released the follow statement after their overwhelming victory at the Garland Tea Party Straw Poll.
Cruz Beats Dewhurst in Another Straw Poll
Two constant themes are emerging from the U.S. Senate candidate forums and straw polls across Texas.
(1) Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst will not show up. He has missed NINE candidate forums since he entered the race — he’s skipped Tea Party forums, Republican Women forums, and County Party forums. Dewhurst clearly does not want to attend and answer the tough questions from voters across the state.
(2) Conservatives continue to unite behind Ted Cruz, who is winning straw poll after straw poll handily. We’re building the strongest grassroots army ever assembled in Texas, with virtually every conservative statewide leader supporting Ted, and a robust County Leadership Team in the 101 largest counties in Texas, which together comprise 94% of the statewide Republican primary vote.
In the two most recent straw polls, Cruz has defeated Dewhurst by wide margins:Kerrville Republican Women — 8/19 Ted Cruz – 61% David Dewhurst – 2.7%Garland Tea Party — 9/15 Ted Cruz – 64.5% David Dewhurst – 1%
Please take a moment to share the results of these straw polls on Facebook and Twitter and tell Texas and the nation that the next Senator from Texas must be (1) a strong conservative and (2) a fighter — not another Establishment business-as-usual career politician, who’s afraid to face the voters.
*Full Disclosure, I work for the Ted Cruz for US Senate campaign, and I am just a little bit biased. But he really is the proven conservative in the race, check out his record and decided for yourself!
